What kind of work is this?

As a Documentation Specialist at Topcon, you will play a critical and strategic role in owning the technical file and the processes related to it. This role combines deep domain expertise with strategic foresight to accelerate documentation workflows and support rapid product development cycles.

The Documentation Specialist is ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance of technical documentation for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) products.

The second key focus is on expediting technical file creation — an operational differentiator that enables faster time-to-market and strengthens competitive advantage. The Documentation Specialist will lead the integration of advanced AI tooling together with external consultants to modernize and streamline the documentation process, creating a first-in-class solution for maintaining the technical file in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

In this role you would:

• Own and maintain the technical file for all Eyecare Software Products together with the other documentation specialists

• Provide domain-specific feedback to Product Owners and Engineering teams to enhance the quality and completeness of technical documentation

• Support and collaborate with Technical Communication Specialists to ensure consistency and clarity across all documentation assets

• Strategically lead the design and implementation of a first-in-class LLM-supported tooling chain for technical file creation, in partnership with external consultants

• Drive initiatives to optimize turnaround times for technical file updates, enabling rapid development and release of SaMD products

• Ensure our documentation meets regulatory standards, and is audit-ready for global compliance (e.g., FDA, MDR)

• Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation processes, templates, and governance models

• Facilitate knowledge sharing and training sessions on best practices for technical documentation within the organization

What do you expect from me?

• Proven hands-on experience in creating and managing technical files for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD)

• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and documentation requirements for medical software (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 13485)

• Experience working with cross-functional teams including engineering, QA, regulatory affairs, and product management

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

• Interest in and prior experience with agentic AI and designing AI agents is a plus.
