What kind of work is this?

Topcon is looking for a Product Owner to play a pivotal role between our U.S. based Product Manager and the Finland-based software development team. In this role, you would act as a strategic link in gathering and understanding market demands, along with specific product requirements and workflow insights. This role is the voice of the customer from all regions into Finland engineering teams, translating customer needs into actionable requirements for engineers with user-centric design.

As Product Owner, you will work closely with the Senior Product Owner on our Harmony Data Management team to ensure both strategic alignment and effective day-to-day execution within the product scope, so that engineers have clarity on what functionality to develop in the software.

You’ll focus on detailed requirements, backlog management, and direct engineering support on clarifying user needs and scope. You’ll contribute to prioritization and execution planning and support on release delivery and defect triage, while the Senior Product Owner is accountable for setting the strategic direction, aligning priorities across teams, platform-level scope decisions and overall product coherence. Together you will ensure both day-to-day delivery and big-picture alignment.

The main responsibilities of this role are:

• Acting as liaison between U.S. Product Management and Finnish Engineering teams together with the Senior Product Owner.

• Absorbing and internalizing product vision and user insights from the U.S.-based Product Managers and representing and advocating customer needs within the Finland development team.

• Drafting product and feature concepts based on user feedback and business goals for review and sign off by customers and product managers.

• Defining requirements and acceptance criteria for user stories as well as deployment and performance requirements, ensuring capturing business intent and desired outcomes

• Prioritizing and managing the product backlog to align with strategic objectives together with customers and product managers

• Acting as a point of contact for engineering for backlog and scope clarifications to provide timely and detailed answers to engineering questions during development.

• Participating in Agile ceremonies (planning, daily collaboration, reviews, backlog refinement).

• Reviewing completed work and ensuring it meets acceptance criteria

• Working with QA/RA to support usability engineering documentation and compliance activities.

• Coordinating with U.S. teams across time zones, including early/late meetings.

What do you expect from me?

• Understanding of customer and market requirements analysis

• Understanding of agile methodologies, backlog management, prioritization and decision-making mentality.

• Ability to translate user needs into clear product requirements and concepts.

• Strong skillset in requirements engineering to formulate and manage clear, validated and traceable requirements.

• Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate U.S. time zones.

• Experience working in cross-cultural and cross-functional teams.

• Fluent written and spoken English.

• Familiarity with medical device or regulated software environments.

• We have a hybrid remote working model, but being able to work at our Oulu office is preferred.
